Civic Education

Objective

To acquaint children, youths and the general public with the norms of Human Rights and civic responsibility, for better cohabitation and a sense of citizenship

Activities undertaken

CAJAD has organized more than one hundred (100) Human Rights and civic classes in primary and secondary schools, together with community associations, in both Fako Division (South West Region) and Moungo Division (Littoral Region). Beneficiaries have been drilled on key provisions of some human rights text, notably the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Convention on the Elimination of All forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), the UN Convention against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, as well as the Rights and Duties of a citizen. Today, Human Rights is being taught as a subject in some schools in Cameroon, thanks partly to our efforts to promote the initiative.
